Atom-level electronic physicists are needed to develop practical engines with a quantum advantage

چکیده
Theoretical research into quantum information engines that surpass the classical Carnot limit has exploded these past 10 years, but experiments so far have almost exclusively been realm of optics community. To help advance field, and to develop solutions might our energy-dependent global society navigate planetary crises, it’s high time physicists working on atom-level electronics join game.

What’s Needed to Develop Strategic Purchasing in Healthcare? Policy Lessons from a Realist Review
Background In the context of serious concerns over the affordability of healthcare, various authors and international policy bodies advise that strategic purchasing is a key means of improving health system performance. Such advice is typically informed by theories from the economics of organization (EOO). This paper proposes that these theories are insufficient for a full understanding o...
متن کاملQuantum Mechanics: To Send Data, Physicists Resort to Quantum Voodoo
Tabloid journalists and writers of mystical self-help works will be happy to know there is an area of physics that holds a vague resemblance to voodoo. It involves one of the weirdest of quantum-mechanical paradoxes, in which two particles can be created simultaneously with their internal quantum states--their spin, for instance, or polarization--irrevocably "entangled." Quantum mechanics dicta...
متن کاملThe force needed to move an atom on a surface.
Manipulation of individual atoms and molecules by scanning probe microscopy offers the ability of controlled assembly at the single-atom scale. However, the driving forces behind atomic manipulation have not yet been measured. We used an atomic force microscope to measure the vertical and lateral forces exerted on individual adsorbed atoms or molecules by the probe tip. We found that the force ...
متن کاملLocalizing of a Four-Level Atom via Absorption Spectrum
We propose a scheme for localizing an atom in a four-level configuration inside a classical standing wave field, conditioned upon the measurement of frequency of a weak probe field. In the classical standing wave field, the interaction between the atom and the field is position dependent due to the Rabi-frequency of the driving field. Hence, as the absorption frequency of the probe field is mea...
متن کاملQuantum advantage with shallow circuits
We prove that constant-depth quantum circuits are more powerful than their classical counterparts. To this end we introduce a non-oracular version of the BernsteinVazirani problem which we call the 2D Hidden Linear Function problem. An instance of the problem is specified by a quadratic form q that maps n-bit strings to integers modulo four. The goal is to identify a linear boolean function whi...
